With all that is going on in the world, I think we’ve officially come to realize the importance of staying healthy this winter. Am I right? Now that we know the importance, it’s even more important that we actually take the necessary steps to do so! Many of us are pretty familiar with what needs to happen but when it comes down to it, we don’t actually follow through… for whatever reason. We blame our lack of follow-through on work, holidays, kids, events, busy schedules, etc. and at the end of the day, we’re left with more of what we don’t want : an unhealthy body and mind.
What if there was a simple, effective and done-for-you kind of routine that, when implemented correctly, yielded powerful results that reflected not only in how you felt but also in appearance and quality of life?
Let me let you in on a little secret…
There is such a thing!
One of my must-haves in my own personal routine has been Nutritional Cleansing (otherwise known as Intermittent Fasting) for health and vitality.
Now, health doesn’t always equate to the absence of sickness or disease; in spite of our many efforts to live a healthy lifestyle, sometimes we just plain catch a bug! But how we feel on a day-to-day basis and what our current lifestyle looks like? That’s everything. Those daily decisions, however small, add up to big results! How do you manage stress? How well do you sleep? What is your environment like when it comes to what you put on your body (personal hygiene, soaps, make-up, etc.)? What cleaning products do you use? What is the air quality of your home or work is like?
All of these things affect our biology.
Cleanses, Detoxes and Intermittent Fasting: How the Right Reset Can Change Your Health
By taking the steps to reduce our expose to environmental toxins and by supporting the body’s natural detoxification processes, the chemicals and toxins locked away in our system are effectively flushed out, resulting in a healthy, highly-functioning body. Happy cells = a happy you!
According to Paul Kriegler, RD:
“As an energy-control strategy or way to manage calories, fasting allows you the flexibility to choose when to eat and when not to eat. Many fasting experts suggest that when implemented correctly, the user may not have to obsess about daily food measuring, prep or counting calories to maintain a chronic daily caloric deficit. They can simply create a significant calorie deficit by choosing to fast for up to 24 hours once or twice a week, depending on how it fits their calendar, and eat normally the other days. Some research even suggests compliance to periodic fasting may be better than the traditional daily calorie deficit most diet plans depend on.Think about this: one day of fasting per week could create the same caloric deficit as four or five days of restricting 400 to 500 calories from your maintenance amount.Taking a break from eating may also be a helpful way for people to really connect with their perception of hunger and satisfaction. At first it can be challenging to work through true physical hunger if you’re not used to it. However, if you’re uncomfortable with the hunger when you’re attempting to fast, you can always decide to eat something and end the fast until another time.As weird as it sounds, periodic 24-hour fasts may enhance growth hormone production, which is observed to mildly increase metabolic rate. This observation flies in the face of the common myth that we need to eat frequently to “stoke” our metabolism. It appears that the break from eating allows insulin levels to drop low enough to allow a somewhat dormant hormonal surge to happen. Here’s how that works: In the fed state, insulin is the dominant anabolic hormone (tissue building and energy storing). In the fasted state, insulin levels drop to fasting levels (go figure), and it is thought that growth hormones appear to increase to help counteract excessive loss of lean tissue.Perhaps most interesting is that by restricting our time in the fed state, we can help the body achieve more normal insulin sensitivity, which could be a huge benefit for the large number of people with pre-diabetes and diabetes. Considering the economic burden of the rising incidence of insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease, controlled intermittent fasting is worth more than a closer look for many people.” *
What is Cleansing and Detoxing?Cleansing and detoxing are the buzz words these days, but did you know that there’s different kinds? The most commonly practiced are Intestinal Cleanses (or detoxes) where one follows a protocol that results in the intestines and colon being flushed out (think Roto-Rootering the gut!).The benefits to this kind of reset is usually weight released, decreased bloating, a boost in metabolism, more energy, reduced sugar cravings, improved sleep, improved vitals such as blood sugar and blood pressure, less anxiety… to name a few! :)As one who practices this regularly, I recommend doing an intestinal cleanse every quarter. Why not reset your baseline for well-being? With the many toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis, our bodies could use the extra help.If you are looking to try or hear more about this, I have a simple, guided 21-Day Reset that I walk many individuals through. The other kind of cleanse is a Cellular Cleanse, using a protocol that incorporates intermittent fasting (no… not starving yourself!).
Intermittent fasting forces your body to tap into specific fat cells that are holding onto toxins (coming from stress, poor diet, build-up of hormones, things in your environment: cleaning products, bath/body/personal hygiene, etc.) to use those for energy instead of sugar, muscle, etc. Your body will ONLY use these fat cells for energy when you target them by cellular cleansing. This type of cleansing leads to lasting results, changing biochemistry and ridding toxins that are locked away.
